Dr. Richard Chen
I grew up the son of a family doctor, so taking care of others’ health has always been a part of my life. As a medical practitioner for over 30 years, I have seen the limitations of traditional Western medicine in treating complex health conditions. That’s why I turned to functional medicine to find more effective ways of helping my patients.
But my journey didn’t stop there. After developing multiple food problems, including a fermented food allergy and several food intolerances, I had to find a way to heal myself.
Through integrative medicine, I studied different fields of medicine, including genetics, biochemistry, physiology, nutrient supplementation for mental health, acupuncture, homeopathy, and energy medicine to help myself and others.

As a result of my own journey, I have developed a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the role of nutrition in achieving optimal health.
I am committed to providing personalized and compassionate care to my patients, and I elieve that true healing comes from addressing the root causes of illness rather than just treating symptoms. If you’re looking for a doctor who will work with you to achieve your maximum health potential, I’m here to help.

What is The Wheel of Health?
The Wheel of Health is a model that Dr. Chen has developed to help improve the mental and physical health of his patients who have been sick for years. It is based on seven different spokes representing the major categories of health: Mental, Dental, Gut, Adrenal, Environmental, Hormonal, and Immune. Those issues can affect a person’s risk of Electrohypersensitivity (being aware of electrical, magnetic, and radiofrequency waves such as cellphones/wifi).
Dr. Chen believes that addressing the right health issues at the right time is essential to get the Wheel turning and the person back to health. He has written a book called “A New Way to Health: The Wheel of Health” where he explains his philosophy about healing and how this model has helped many of his patients.

How does Dr. Chen approach treatment for his clients?
Dr. Chen listens to his patients and their story. From there, he does his examination and determines the most probable causes for what is going on. Once he determines the causes, he prioritizes them (if we want to plant a flower, we have to make space in the ground, plant the seeds and water them in that order). There is an order of treatment based on the individual. Treatments are done with supplements, food changes, acupuncture, neural therapy, and lasers.
Does Dr. Chen accept insurance?
Because of the cutting edge medicine that Dr. Chen provides, he does not accept insurance. He does provide Superbills which may be reimbursed depending on your insurance. PPO and private insurance companies reimburse better than others in his opinion.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
The first thing you can expect is to be listened to. Dr. Chen allows patients up to 1.5 hours for their first visit. From their story and their physical exam, Dr. Chen intuits their possible issues. If you wish, a session of laser acupuncture or laser neural therapy can be done if it would be helpful to your health.
